Star Power

Over the past number of years, I have enjoyed creating a series of paintings and the challenge of capturing the movement and light in shallow, clear water near the surf line. This is one of my favorites, the sea star moving over a quahog shell in the shimmer of light and the surface and the sandy bottom. It does tell a story, possibly the star has just enjoyed dinner, or perhaps it is just moving along on its daily rounds.

"Star Power" was recently featured in five major exhibitions, one virtual and in print, and three live. It was included in the American Society of Marine Artists 19th National, a touring museum show, which opened September 2023 at the Albany (NY) Institute of History and Art and continued to The Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, MN in January 2024.

I am very pleased that it was also one of two paintings which was published in Artists for Conservation's annual book "The Art of Conservation 2023". It is also part of the 2023 virtual exhibition online.

It then was selected for Copley Society of Boston's National Exhibit, 2024, "Exuberance Released", and in November 2024 it won an award at the American Artists Professional League 96th Grand National at New York's Salmagundi Club.

I am happy to say that it had another outing, this time to the Summer National at Cape Cod Art Center, which opens in 2025.
